General Store, Post Office, Pioneer Day...come experience them all!

Posted by Kayla Smith on Nov 2, 2017 10:00:00 AM

The Osceola County Historical Society will be celebrating what life was like in early Florida by hosting the 26th Annual Pioneer Day. This is always a fun time for the community to come out and enjoy the Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek for free, and experience historical re-enactments and examples of daily life for pioneers. What makes this year’s event even more exciting is OCHS has added another replica building, the General Store, and we will be celebrating its grand opening at 10:30AM, November 11th during the 26th Annual Pioneer Day event! General Store. 10.24.17 Kayla Smith.jpg

The General Store was an integral part of any village and provided residents with necessities they may not have been able to grow or make themselves. OCHS’s General Store will house examples of items that may have been available to the early residents of the Osceola County area. The Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek will also have mailboxes that served the Narcoossee community from the 1880s to the 1940s, inside the General Store!

If you haven’t experienced the Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek, be sure to make it to the 26th Annual Pioneer Day on November 11, 2017 from 10AM to 4PM. OCHS will also be hosting a fundraiser for those who would like to become a “resident” of this historical site. Spots in the original post office boxes are for sale for individuals or businesses to put their name on and become a part of the Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek
