OCHS Employee Spotlight: Maggie Ferrara

Program Director, Larissa Bixby, tracked down OCHS’s super busy Venue Rental Sales Director for a quick get to know you. Maggie has been with OCHS for a year as of this month. Congrats, Maggie! She has created the Venue Rental Sales Department from a barely functioning, basement level operation to a flourishing business that highlights the natural beauty and unique spaces OCHS has to offer for your next celebration. When she’s not charging full speed ahead at work, Maggie keeps her energies high on a run, trying new things, traveling, or working out. You can definitely say that Maggie is energetic, but you’ll also be struck by how compassionate and joyful a person she is as well.

OH! Employee Spotlight: Kayla Smith

This month’s spotlight is all about OCHS Curator and Collections Manager, Kayla Smith. Kayla began working at the Osceola County Historical Society as a volunteer in 2016 before she took the position as Curator on her birthday that same year. She spends her free time with her husband, Paul, and their son. She enjoys exploring the outdoors and teaching her son about the world. OCHS Employee Spotlight: Jozef Bladek

Jozef Bladek has been greeting locals and visitors at the Osceola County Welcome Center and History Museum since December 2016. In addition to his role as museum attendant, Jozef conducts tours of the History Museum, participants in outreach programs, assists with the smooth operations of exhibit openings and recently, he has added Pioneer Village field tripattendant to his repertoire.

 Jozef respects and appreciates Florida’s history, and enjoys talking to guests about their historical knowledge.

 JB: When I first started working, an older gentleman came in. We talked for about an hour just on citrus. As a young adult, he had been a truck driver that picked up citrus through out Kissimmee. He said U.S. 192 was all citrus groves lining the road, before Disney, of course. Now you look around and all you see is people and not a single bit of citrus. Another thing I thought was interesting was meeting some of the Cadman Family descendants.

 Larissa Bixby asked Jozef a series of questions, in the hopes of getting to know the young man who works the front desk at the museum. This is what she found out:
